Tax Reform & Your Business: A Q&A – CWE VT – Mar 27

You’ve heard about the tax reform and you’re concerned about its impacts for your business. Please join CWEVT for a special Q&A session with Patti Bisson, tax advisor, business strategist and instructor to begin to get your questions answered. Although IRS guidance is still unrolling, Patti will be able to break down some of the changes into bite-sized pieces for your business needs.

Patti works with clients across the country, providing strategic business growth and management services, tax and accounting services (corporate, partnership, not-for-profit, individual, small business, estate, trust, multi-state), cyber/data security management, professional training, systems development and implementation, and state tax policy.

Patti serves as an appointed member of the VT Tax Commissioner’s Tax Technical Working Group, and is President of the VT Chapter of NATP (National Association of Tax Professionals). She’s also a licensed Enrolled Agent, instructor for UVM Tax School, and has previously served as Vice-President & Chair of Government Relations for the VT Chapter of NATP.

About the session: The CWEVT Q&A sessions will be an open format. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask Patti about the tax reform and how it may impact their small business.

Gift Planning Under the New Tax Law @ Montshire Museum of Science

The new tax law became effective January 1, 2018. It contains many changes that will affect how donors approach giving to charity. The good news is that there are still many ways for fundraisers to make a compelling case for philanthropy. Nevertheless, gift planners will need to modify what they talk about with donors, and how they talk about it, if they want to continue to be successful.

PG Calc’s Jeff Lydenberg will review the changes in the new tax law most relevant to gift planning, confirm what planned giving vehicles remain viable, describe several tax-wise strategies for making gifts under the new law, and offer suggestions on how gift planners can best discuss gift planning options with their donors going forward.


Jeff Lydenberg (Vice President, Consulting). Jeff is a planned giving consultant to non-profits large and small in a variety of fields. He has been with PG Calc since 1999 and, in this role, he has advised planned giving programs on staffing and development of policies and procedures, trained boards and planned giving staff on planned gift design, created planned giving marketing plans, and designed marketing materials for planned giving programs. Prior to entering the field of planned giving, Jeff practiced law for six years with the Cleveland-based law firm of Thompson, Hine and Flory in its Cincinnati office. Jeff’s planned giving career began at The Cleveland Clinic Foundation in 1995 where he was the Assistant Director of Planned Giving for five years.

Jeff has a BA in American Studies from Kent State University and a JD from Case Western Reserve School of Law. He is the former programming chair for the Planned Giving Group of New England (PGGNE) and is currently a member of the Greater Cincinnati Planned Giving Council. In 2013, he served as Board Chair of the Partnership for Philanthropic Planning (PPP) the predecessor to the National Association of Charitable Gift Planners.
